The Vita Theater was a very important and influential part of my early days in Spearfish, SD. My dad owned and operated it and it was through this, that I was first exposed to show business. Some years later when entertainers (like Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly's Crickets, The Ventures and the Everly Brothers) would come to town, I would re-open after closing so the musicians could come by and watch a movie after the gig. Some of my early experiments in comedy were born there, as well....like the time live pigeons were released in the darkened theater during the showing of Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds".
